Dr. Matt Pilon DPT, PT
Physical Therapist

I have continued my life-long involvement in sports from a player to a coach, to a sports medicine health care professional as a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy. I am passionate about helping individuals return to their sport through integrating education, targeted therapeutic exercise, and hands-on manual therapy interventions. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biopsychology, Cognition & Neuroscience from the University of Michigan in 2013 where I played 4 years of D1 rugby. Towards the end of my playing career I separated my shoulder, introducing me to the world of rehabilitation and Physical Therapy. I quickly transitioned my career path while coaching rugby at the collegiate, high school, and middle school levels. Fast forward to 2018, when I graduated from Drexel University with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy and further specialized experience in concussion assessment, adaptive sports, and biomechanical running assessments. I began my professional career in Santa Cruz, CA working for an outpatient sports-medicine clinic. As COVID hit I transitioned to travel PT where I worked with numerous, highly educated PTs in both outpatient and home health settings. After 3 years Icraved a sense of stability and community leading me to sunny San Diego.I continue to enjoy staying active through surfing, mountain biking, yoga, meditating, running, tennis, pickleball, volleyball, camping, and disc golf. I have continued my life-long pursuit ofknowledge through the following organizations:-Institute of Physical Art-Maitland-Australian Physiotherapy Seminars-John F. Barnes Myofascial ReleaseI can personally relate to the highs of playing a sport you love and the lows of being unable toparticipate due to injury, and both the physical and mental consequences. My unique educationand personal background allows me to adopt a holistic approach in assessing and treatingspecific injuries and biomechanical deficiencies, but also incorporating applicable painneuroscience principles and behavioral change strategies to optimize health and wellnes
